Private yoga sessions in your own home can be for one person, for couples, or for small groups (usually anything up to four, often friends getting together).

I teach daytime and weekend one-to-ones/private groups, plus some evenings.

You may wish to have a block of six weekly one-to-ones, simply a one-off, or to continue on an ongoing weekly basis. I offer a free consultation/assessment to discuss your requirements.

There are many reasons why you may opt for private yoga sessions:

  • You have a particular health issue (e.g a bad back, depression, anxiety, or are recovering from a recent operation) that would be better addressed in a one-to-one, where the session is tailor-made to suit your needs. Poses are specifically selected or modified to meet your particular requirements.
  • You are new to yoga and would feel more comfortable and confident learning the fundamentals initially with personal tuition. Here you can ask questions and become familiar with poses before going into a group class situation.
  • You are too busy to attend weekly group classes and prefer to have a lesson at a time convenient to you.
  • You are house-bound or infirm, and would benefit from gentle, restorative yoga, perhaps based from a chair.
  • You may have particularly tight hamstrings, shoulders or hips, for example, and wish to devote more practice time to that specific area than a general class would allow. The poses and sequences are designed with these particular requirements in mind.
  • You would prefer to have a lesson in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
  • You attend regular classes but wish to boost your practice and go deeper with individual tuition. You may wish to focus on particular areas of interest – backbends or meditation, for instance – that cannot be covered in such depth within the confines of a general class.

‘I have been taking yoga with Charlie Hartley each week now for five years. I have ankylosing spondylitis which is a fusion of some of my vertebrae. Charlie has researched my condition and constantly adapts my yoga routine which counteracts its damaging effects.
Because of Charlie’s diligence, research and care she has helped me keep supple and reasonably flexible whilst my back is trying to do the opposite. The result is that yoga allows me to relax, pain-free, and I can look forward to a more flexible future.’

Colin Bridgeland, Bridgeland Roofing

‘I started yoga several years ago when Pilates was no longer working for me. I am so thankful to have met Charlie at that time as her knowledge, wisdom, kindness and expertise have not only guided me through the physical rehabilitation required after major surgeries, but more importantly I have learned that yoga is such an incredible tool for maintaining balance, strength, poise and grace in this fast-paced life.’

Michelle Pearson, craniosacral therapist, Cranbrook

‘Charlie is a wonderful yoga teacher; she has undoubtedly helped me with my muscular and skeletal issues. I cannot praise her enough with her passion, patience and skilful teaching qualities!’

Jules Davies, travel consultant, Baldwins Travel

‘I’ve been doing yoga with Charlie for a couple of years now. I get so much out of it. It’s good for mind, body and soul. Charlie is an excellent, knowledgeable teacher and healer. I feel energized and much more at peace after each session. I’ve also learnt the importance of breath and balance. Thank you, Charlie.’

Helen Crossfield, business consultant

‘I've done yoga for years with many different teachers -- Charlie is very special. For her, yoga is not a hobby but a way of being and it illuminates all her classes and practice. Charlie constantly progresses her own practice and shares most generously with her pupils. She has a wide breadth of interest in all types of yoga and integrates them while maintaining integrity to give you just what you need. Her classes will push you to be better, and most of all, bring you joy!’
